Mahaneh Yehuda Market (Shuk)

Mahane Yehuda Market, frequently appertained to as”The Shuk”, is a notable trading and shopping center in Jerusalem. Popular with locals and tourists alike, it houses over 250 vendors, selling fresh fruits and vegetables; baked goods; fish, meat and crapola; nuts, seeds, and spices; wines and liquors; apparel and shoes; and housewares, fabrics, and Judaica.

In and around the compound are falafel, shawarma, kibbeh, kebab, shashlik, kanafeh, baklava, halva, zalabiya and Jerusalem mixed caff stands, juice bars, cafes, and caffs. The color and bustle of the business is accentuated by merchandisers who call out their prices to passersby. On Thursdays and Fridays, the business is filled with shoppers grazing up for the Shabbath, until the Friday autumn sounding of the bugle that signifies the market will close for the Sabbath. In recent times,  the ‘shuk’ has emerged as another Jerusalemic nightlife center, with restaurants, bars and live music.
