The Western Wall or “Wailing Wall” is the most devout religious site for Jews in the world. Located in the Old City of Jerusalem, it is the western retaining wall of the Temple Mount. Thousands of people visit and pray at the Great Wall every year. These prayers are either said or written and placed in cracks in the wall. The wall is divided into two parts, one for men and the other for women. This is a highlight of every visit to the Old City.
About the Wailing Wall
King Herod built the wall in 20 BC during the expansion of the Second Temple. The retaining wall survived when the Romans destroyed the temple in AD 70. For hundreds of years, people have prayed in small areas where the wall was visible. In 1967, after the Six-Day War, the Israelis dug under the wall and discovered two more floors. They also cleared the area around the wall to create the western wall plaza that visitors see today.
This place is open to all and is the scene of various ceremonies such as B. Military Induction and Bar Mitzvah. The Western Wall is free and open all year round.
