The Israel Museum is a museum of art and archaeology in Jerusalem. Founded in 1965, it is Israel’s largest and most important cultural institution and one of the world’s leading encyclopedic museums. It is located on a hill in the Givat Ram neighborhood in Jerusalem, adjacent to the Bibal Lands Museum, the Knesset, the Supreme Court of Israel and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Its collections include the world’s most comprehensive collections of Holy Land archaeology and Jewish art and life, as well as an important and extensive fine art collection, the latter comprising eleven separate departments: Israeli Art; European Art; Modern Art; Contemporary Art; Prints and Drawings; Photography; Design and Architecture; Asian Art; African Art; Marine Art; and American Art.
